Content can be delivered in two ways: either by manually entering the data using the HTML user interface, or by an automatic data handler, processing all documents from a procured content feed (XML, NewsML, SGML etc.). The MS-Word-like interface provides an easy to use 'what-you-see-is-what-you-get' environment. There is no need to worry about fonts, sizes or colors: the editor needs to manage the real content only. The interface is 100% configurable by the Editor in Chief: all functionality can be switched on or off per user group.
The website's structure and 'look & feel' are defined by templates in the database. The editor depicts the position of the page in that structure and provides some Meta information. Comanche automatically creates the
|
correct structure indicators and placeholders (headers, sub headers, dividers, links to related articles, links to the channel homepage et cetera). After processing the data Comanche delivers a spick and span product: webpages, even in several styles if requested, WML(WAP) pages, i-Mode, XML documents for distribution to third parties, complete sites - the possibilities are numerous.
Each interaction between the user and Comanche passes through the User management module, where all actions, screens and menus are checked. The user management module handles authentication and authorization, and shows each user solely what he or she is entitled to see, including the appropriate menu items. This enables the administrator to enforce the desired

workflow. Moreover, this type of architecture prevents unauthorized alteration - or publication - of content.
The Comanche server application is 100% Java and XML compliant (built on the 'eAI Product of the Year 2002' award winning Novell SilverStream eXtend J2EE Application Server), the client interface 100% (D)HTML. Editors can maintain a site from literally anywhere, without additional client installs: just a standard web browser (MS Internet Explorer 5.5 or better) and Internet access will do the trick.
